World Futsal Cup 2023
The pinnacle of Youth Futsal we believe is the World Futsal Cup hosted by United Futsal. This event hosts some of the biggest futsal clubs from across the world come together to Barcelona for a futsal experience you just can’t forget.
After our U15 were successful in the Montesilvano Futsal Cup, United Futsal invited us to be part of this event and it’s one we were so glad to be part of, as mentioned it’s a futsal experience which just can’t be matched.
We faced Japanese, Brazilian and arguably the biggest club in the world Barcelona in the group stage competing well throughout and missing out on qualifying on goal difference. We started with a narrow loss to Japanese opposition Pescadola before a thrilling encounter against Semel Select from Brazil in which we won 7-6 and we finished off our group with facing Barcelona, despite taking the lead and dominating the first half we went in at 1-1, unfortunately for us the second half we made too many errors and finished on the end of a 6-1 loss . . . not a score that reflects the performance or the competitive match but it can get taken away from you so quickly in futsal.
We moved on to face opposition from Kyrgyzstan in which we ran out dominant winners before facing Futsal Mataro in our final match who we thought were the best opposition we had faced at this age group, a game played in good spirits and a real challenge for our squad we narrowly lost out 2-1 but can be proud of the efforts of competing with some of the best futsal clubs Spain had to offer.
We went there knowing it was a challenge, the teams we faced are futsal specific teams, training 2-3 times weekly with a weekend match all in Futsal where as our squad hadn’t played a match together since June but we did ourselves proud and certainly put Scottish Youth Futsal on the map.
The boys & parents can be proud of their efforts, the effort and quality shown over the week had people talking about Joga Futsal Academy, already we are invited to the 2024 edition amongst many other tournaments throughout the year.
